IS CHRISTIANITY EVIL?
"Absolutely yes," would say militant atheists.
They would then proceed to point out that the history of Christianity is
replete with examples of wars, persecutions, greed, immorality, etc. that
manifest both cruelty and hypocrisy.
This site acknowledges
that some Catholic and Protestant Christians of the past have committed
atrocities, injustices and immoral acts that were far from shining examples
of Christianity. On the other hand, this site does not recognize that such
actions were committed by true Christians. No sensible and rational
mind would accept anyone's claim that one can be an atheist and yet pray
regularly to God. Furthermore, no one would accept anyone's claim that one
is an avowed Marxist while openly supporting capitalist
principles. Similarly, no rational mind should accept the view that butchers, the power hungry,
the greedy and the hypocrites of the past were true followers of Jesus Christ.
To determine if one is an
atheist, one need only check the foundational tenets of atheism. To determine
if one is a Marxist, one need only check the foundational tenets of Marxism.
To determine if one is a Christian, one need only check the teachings of
Jesus Christ. What follows are some of the fundamental teachings enunciated
by
Jesus Christ Himself. An honest reading of some of His teachings quickly
reveals that the many shameful acts committed by "Christians" of the past
were the actions of deceived or evil and hypocritical men and women, not the actions of
true Christians.
Love both God and your
neighbor: "Jesus
said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with
all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38This
is the first and great commandment. 39And
the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40
On
these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." (Matthew
22:37-40)
Love your enemies:
"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that
curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which
despitefully use you, and persecute you;" (Matthew 5:44)
Turn the other cheek: "But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee
on thy right cheek, turn to him the other one also."
(Matthew 5:39)
Evade violence:
"Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all
they that take the sword shall perish with the sword."
(Matthew 26:52)
Be peacemakers:
"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children
of God."
(Matthew 5:9)
Help those in need:
"And
he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34Then
shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my
Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the
world: 35For
I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink:
I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36Naked,
and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye
came unto me." (Matthew 25:33-36)
Do not be hypocritical:
"He answered and said unto them, Well
has Isaiah prophesied of you
hypocrites, as it is written, This people honor me with their lips,
but their heart is far from me." (Mark 7:6)
"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean
the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of
extortion and excess."
(Matthew
23:25)
"These people draw near to Me with their
mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in
vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." (Matthew 15:7-9)
Pursue
humility: "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth."
(Matthew 5:5)
“Not
everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of
heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven."
(Matthew 7:21, 23)
“He who says I know him and
does not keep His commandments is a liar and His truth is not in Him.”
(I John 2:4)
"In
this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest:
Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God..."
(I
John 3:10)

CONCLUSION:
Anyone can call himself or herself a Christian. He or she can even attend
church faithfully and pretend to be one. Jesus Christ has set the
expectations and they are clear and unchangeable. He is the Judge of us all;
He sees all and keeps count of all our thoughts, deeds and attitudes. Liars,
hypocrites and evil people who dare to call themselves Christians while
being the opposite will have the greatest condemnation.
