ATHEISM AND SEXUAL FREEDOM
"The
world would be a better place...if
morality was all about doing good to others and refraining from hurting
them, rather than religion's morbid obsession with private sin and the
evils of sexual enjoyment."[i]
This statement by Richard Dawkins summarizes the attitude of militant
atheists toward Judaism and Christianity’s insistence that sex outside
of marriage is sinful and harmful. It also spotlights the message
propagated by influential atheists that setting limits on human
sexuality takes away from other important priorities and that
condemnations of sexual sins have no merit. This site holds that such an
attitude will serve to add to what has become a gigantic worldwide
problem that has and will continue to devastate the lives of countless
millions and that spreading the gospel of sexual liberation will
contribute to bringing countless others to an early death.
The sexual drive is very powerful,
and its fulfillment ecstatic. Sexual abandonment, though, can lead to
devastating consequences at the individual, social and global level.
Tens of millions today have incurable STD’s in the US alone, about forty
millions have HIV around the globe. Countless millions have died since
the discovery of HIV in the early 1980’s. The most excruciating part of
all this is the fact that countless women and men have died innocently
because of irresponsible partners that refuse to pull the reigns on
their sexuality. Great numbers of children have become orphans because
of sexual irresponsibility on the part of a parent.
In spite of the
fruits of sexual liberation, many atheists oppose Judeo-Christian
morality adamantly. One need not research the motives of atheism for
long to see that one of the forces that drive many atheists is the need
to free themselves and humanity from the guilt that accompanies sexual
sins so as to indulge in sexual adventures without either compunction or
fear. Their logic is simple: There is no God; no sexual sins and thus no
need for guilt. There is ample enjoyment in satisfying the senses.
Consequently, pre-marital sex, adultery, pornography and other forbidden
fruits become acceptable and not to be condemned, if they are acceptable
to participants.
This is the path that was chosen by several
atheist leaders of the past. (See the page
NOT-SO-MORAL ATHEISTS on this site). Their distorted example has
been followed and propagated by many atheists into our days. Some of
their disciples have become “preachers” of sexual freedom and daily
promulgate their message worldwide in their literature and on the
Internet. Some, unfortunately, have been
converted to their potentially deadly message, to their own demise.
But contrary to what some atheists propagate,
History has given us ample proof that
human sexuality must be kept strictly under control, or the consequences
will be disastrous.
Two of the greatest
historians of our times, Will and Ariel Durant, summarize this reality
in their brilliant work, The Lessons of History. In it they
inform us that one of the great lessons of history is that conservative
forces must be heeded, especially in the area of sexuality. They
summarize this critical truth in the following eloquent and powerful
warning:
“…Sex is a river of fire that must be banked
and cooled by a hundred restraints if it is not to consume in chaos both
the individual and the group.”[ii]
Presently, sexuality is not being restrained. What
is being restrained is Religion’s attempts to restrain sexuality.
Atheists are adding to the problem by
diminishing the worth and value of Religion and by providing arguments
against God’s reality and His moral expectations which help to
neutralize the fear and guilt that historically have helped to restrain
“the river of fire.”
In the future,
atheists will finally be seen as having fed the devastating monster of
STD's that is ravaging our world. They will also have to take some
responsibility for influencing some individuals who have left the
security of biblical morality to indulge in dangerous life styles that
brought them to their early death.

"Chlamydia remains the most commonly reported infectious disease in the
U.S.
CDC estimates that 2.8 million new infections occur each year. More than
1.1 million cases were diagnosed in 2007
(less than half of the estimated number of infections) — routine
screening and treatment are critical to reducing infections.
Young females 15 – 19 years of age have the highest chlamydia rate
(3,004.7 per 100,000 population in 2007)"
"Gonorrhea remains the second most commonly reported infectious disease
in the U.S.
Almost
356,000 cases were reported in 2007
(approximately twice as many new infections are estimated to occur each
year as are reported).
Rates among women remain slightly higher than rates among men (123.5 vs.
113.7 per 100,000 population in 2007)"

the United States and dependent areas was 1,051,875.
Of these, 1,018,428 were diagnosed in the 50 states and the District of
Columbia and 32,051 were diagnosed in the dependent areas. In the 50
states and the District of Columbia, adult and adolescent AIDS cases

A study presented in 2008 revealed
that around 26% of young American women aged 14-19 are infected with at
least one of the four most common sexually transmitted infections.
This amounts to around 3.2 million
female teenagers. The most widespread infection is HPV (human papilloma
virus, which can cause genital warts and cervical cancer), found in 18%
of young women. In second place is chlamydia, with a 4% infection rate.
The study found that African American teenagers are most severely
affected; around 48% of young African American women have an STD,
compared to 20% of young white women."

WHO estimates that 340 million new cases of syphilis, gonorrhea,
chlamydia and trichomoniasis occurred throughout the world in 1999 in
men and women aged 15-49 years.
The largest number of new infections occurred in the region of South &
Southeast Asia, followed by sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America & the
Caribbean. The highest rate of new cases per 1,000 population occurred
in sub-Saharan Africa."
